iRobot (still) working on lawn-mowing Roomba?
via Engadget by (author unknown) on July 07, 2008
Shared by fluffyhelen I can see the headline now... "child eaten by rogue Mowba, parents to sue."Filed under: RobotsNot that it's any surprise, but according to a patent filing (which we were unable to ourselves unearth from the abyss that is the USPTO), iRobot would appear to still be working on the "Mowba," or whatever the hell the lawn-cutting robot is that they were talking up years ago....

SOS is 100 years old: ...---...---...---...---
via Boing Boing by Cory Doctorow on July 02, 2008
Happy 100th birthday, SOS!There was some early success for the new system a year later when the Cunard liner the SS Slavonia was stricken off the Azores. She sent out an SOS and not a single life was lost.Even so, not everybody was convinced instantly, and it took the tragedy of the Titanic to reveal just how vital a universal system was. After the collision in April 1912, the ship’s radio...

Pervasive Pollyannas of Prosperity
via The Big Picture by Barry Ritholtz on July 02, 2008

Last week, Barron’s called the drop in consumer confidence “difficult to figure.” A front-page headline in The Washington Post claimed,...

How quickly do you expect a response on email?
via MSDN Blogs by jasonlan on July 02, 2008
... it’s either because I’m doing it at a strange time of day (late at night) or it’s not a priority so I just fire an email off. If I really need a fast response I would probably pick up the phone and call them. This research spurred me to check out Xobni on my email and looked at responses both internally and externally. For internal Microsoft emails the median response was 2hrs. For e...

Ballmer on Yahoo Deal: The Bankers “screwed everything up.”
via TechCrunch by Michael Arrington on July 02, 2008
Interesting and surprisingly detailed story in the Wall Street Journal tonight about the ongoing (never ending) Microsoft/Yahoo deal. The headline is that Microsoft, apparently not happy with simply destroying Yahoo’s credibility, is now hoping to rip it apart and divide up the pieces.Microsoft Corp., positioning itself for a new run for Yahoo Inc.’s search business, has approached other...

Adobe Gets the Press But Does Search No Favors
via Mashable! by Steven Hodson on July 01, 2008
It is easy to see by all the headlines today that Adobe, Google, and to a lesser degree Yahoo, are getting all the love. As Stan Schroeder posted earlier this morning, Adobe is getting together with Google and Yahoo to put some new technology in place that will make Flash enabled Web sites indexable by the two search engine companies. Everyone’s reaction so far has been to get all excited about...
