Large monitor productivity...
via The Jason Calacanis Weblog by Jason Calacanis on March 09, 2008
I've been pushing the concept of the two monitor *minimum* for a while now. At Mahalo the least amount of real estate you can have is two 24" monitors, and we're starting to push folks to three monitors (one 30 inch Dell and two 24 "wing men"). It's so clear that three monitors makes people UBER productive. I don't know about productivity dropping off with a 26-inch screen in this...

Startup Handbook: How to identify and deal with the slow masses, knowledgeable skeptics, and savvy dreamers.
via The Jason Calacanis Weblog by Jason Calacanis on January 24, 2008
When you start a new company your job as founder is, in large part, to help people understand the vision. To help them explain why the idea you have, which on the face might seem somewhere between impossible and crazy, is--in fact--completely logical and obtainable. If you're like me you've found that different folks respond differently to your idea at different points in the life cycle...

Should Google, Yahoo, Mahalo, etc. ban affilite links? (or "Will the FTC ban undisclosed affiliate links for us all?")

"We wanted to make clear . . . if you're being paid, you should disclose that."Mary K. Engle, FTC associate director for advertising practices quoted in the Washington PostIf you're involved in the debate over undisclosed affiliate links you really need to watch this video of Mary Engle responding to a complaint about word of mouth marketing online. Jason Nation climbs to #3 on Twitter
via The Jason Calacanis Weblog by Jason Calacanis on March 25, 2008
Follow me on twitter at: www.twitter.com/jasoncalacanisAfter yesterday's QIK and Ustream madness the Jason Nation has rallied to take the third position on Twitter. You can see daily twitter stats at Twitterholic.com. As you can see we trail Robert Scoble by only 1,200 followers, and the next president of the United States by only 4,000 followers. As everyone knows we're going to run some...

Social media focus groups
via The Jason Calacanis Weblog by Jason Calacanis on April 27, 2008
People have told me over the past year that I'm obsessed with Twitter and that my obsession should be on Mahalo. Of course, I see Twitter as akin to breathing and talking for business--essential. What's the point of having over 20,000 followers on Twitter folks have asked me. Why have 5,000 friends on Facebook, or over 1,000 people on Pownce. Why waste your time doing ustream videos? Why...

The "Official" Verdict on Powerset (or what would I do if i was the CEO).
via The Jason Calacanis Weblog by Jason Calacanis on May 12, 2008
Powerset has received a ton of attention--some say hype--about their "Google-killing" intelligence based search. Google-killing is in quotes there for a reason people: no one is killing Google any time soon, and in fact the best search and navigation companies--i believe--will learn to play in Google's pond. (note the "official" in the title is also a joke, but I'm sure some folks will...
