Is Dataportability.org just PR?
via Scobleizer -- Tech geek blogger by Robert Scoble on February 07, 2008
Flavio Rump, in this Qik video, asks something very interesting: is the DataPortability.org just PR? He’s been kicked off of several social networks for trying to import JUST NAMES into Facebook. Wants to know if any social network is actually changing its behavior when it comes to sharing data. He hasn’t seen any action yet and, in the video, we talk about a raft of dataportability issues....

I want to public domain my RAW photo files
via Scobleizer -- Tech geek blogger by Robert Scoble on February 08, 2008
When I shoot pictures, like I did this week at the LIFT conference, my camera makes two copies: one in the RAW format and one in JPEG. Now, the ones that get uploaded to my Flickr account are the JPEGs. But lately I’ve been playing with my RAW files and seeing just how much better those are for doing post processing. It’s amazing how much tonal range you have access to there. Things that look...

Obsolete skills
via Scobleizer -- Tech geek blogger by Robert Scoble on February 15, 2008
Francine Hardaway is here and we’re talking about obsolete skills. Things we used to know that no longer are very useful to us. Here’s some we came up with. How many can you come up with?1. Dialing a rotary phone.2. Putting a needle on a vinyl record.3. Changing tracks on an eight-track tape.4. Shorthand.5. Using a slide rule.6. Using carbon paper to make copies.7. Developing film/photos.8....

Switching to Gmail…
via Scobleizer -- Tech geek blogger by Robert Scoble on February 23, 2008
Yeah, yeah, I know, I should have done this years ago. But Hotmail is just something I was addicted to. My email address is all over the Internet, so I resisted totally making the switch. Plus I was an Outlook guy, so didn’t really need to deal with the online service, all your emails just came into Outlook. Now I’m trying to move everything online. Why? Because I have several computers and...

VMWare rocks…
via Scobleizer -- Tech geek blogger by Robert Scoble on February 24, 2008
As I get around and talk to geeks I would tell them that I’ve been using Parallels so that I could run Windows on top of my Macintosh’s OSX operating system, but have had some troubles with crashing and other things. The answer back has been quite consistent: that I should use VMWare’s Fusion. So, I finally gave in. And, damn, it is nicer and faster. You can even drag VM’s from operating...

Has Microsoft caught up to Google in search?
via Scobleizer -- Tech geek blogger by Robert Scoble on March 01, 2008
Barney Pell, CEO of Powerset (a company that’s building a new kind of search engine) tells me that Microsoft has caught up to Google in search relevancy (he was at the Bil conference yesterday). There are companies that are paid to track such things and he’s been watching their reports. That made me realize that I haven’t tried a search over on Microsoft’s Live.com lately. It also might...

Commenting on the news
via Scobleizer -- Tech geek blogger by (author unknown) on May 05, 2008
Shared by Alexander Marktl Scoble's right. GReader team needs to provide lots more features. They just can't leave us with that :-(OK, over the past few hours I’ve gone crazy with Google Reader’s shared note feature. You can see how I’m using it on my shared items feed, which has a cool new ninja design (another new feature shipped yesterday). It’s interesting, but leaves me...

via Scobleizer -- Tech geek blogger by Robert Scoble on May 13, 2008
You can’t compare a $3,000 digital SLR to a $500 cell phone from Nokia, can you? Well, look at these two photos. Which one was made with the Canon 5D with a 50mm F1.4 lens and which one was made with a Nokia N82 cell phone? You can visit my Flickr account to see which camera made which images and you’ll see some other comparison photos and other images that I’ve made with the Nokia N82. Seesmic & Disqus add up to video comments and more
via Scobleizer -- Tech geek blogger by Robert Scoble on May 13, 2008
If you aren’t a blogger you probably haven’t noticed this company named Disqus unless you really are paying attention when you leave a comment. But head over to Dave Winer’s blog, click on the comments, and if you leave a comment there, like I just did, you aren’t actually leaving it on Dave Winer’s blog. You’re using Disqus’s commenting service. “So what?” you’re probably...
