Filter and Sort Tables from Web Pages
via Google Operating System by (author unknown) on May 23, 2008
Shared by Fernando B I think it is useful... I haven't tried!TableTools is a Firefox extension that lets you sort, filter and export tables from any web page. After installing the extension and restarting Firefox, find a web page that includes tables (this search might help) and right-click on a table to find a lot of interesting features:* sort a column, depending on the type of elements...

Social Graph API
via Google Operating System by Ionut Alex Chitu on February 01, 2008
In "Thoughts on the Social Graph", Brad Fitzpatrick wrote:There are an increasing number of new "social applications" as well as traditional application which either require the "social graph" or that could provide better value to users by utilizing information in the social graph. What I mean by "social graph" is a the global mapping of everybody and how they're related, as Wikipedia...

Google Shows When It First Indexed a Page
via Google Operating System by Ionut Alex Chitu on February 09, 2008
If you use Google's advanced options to restrict the search results to a certain period of time, you'll find that Google shows the date when each web page has been first indexed (in many cases, this is a good approximation of the date when a web page has been created). As previously mentioned, you can edit Google's URL to customize how fresh the search results should be. For example,...

Add Full Web Pages to iGoogle
via Google Operating System by Ionut Alex Chitu on February 17, 2008
If you don't find appropriate iGoogle gadgets for your favorite web sites, there's a way to create tabs that include these sites in iframes. Michael Bolin, from Google, created a gadget that loads almost any web page. Before adding the gadget, it's recommended to create a new iGoogle tab, but don't forget to uncheck the "I'm feeling lucky" option that populates the tab with...

Use iGoogle and Google Reader in the Sidebar
via Google Operating System by Ionut Alex Chitu on May 13, 2008
A simple use for Google's iPhone interfaces is to add them as sidebars in Firefox or Opera. I mentioned last year some Google gadgets for Google Notebook, Google Talk, Google Docs, that could be displayed in a permanently-visible sidebar. Here are two interfaces optimized for iPhone that have permalinks:iGoogle - all of the gadgets are displayed in a single column and you can switch between...

Things Google Can Improve
via Google Operating System by Ionut Alex Chitu on January 27, 2008
Durrell Robinson has a lot of great ideas for Google and he decided to share them with you. I only selected some of the most interesting ideas and found their place inside this post.Contact manager integration with Picasa Web Albums and customizable Facebook-like tags that allow you to tag a person you know in a picture you took and maybe even allow them to untag themselves like the Facebook...

Display a Google Calendar in Google Maps
via Google Operating System by Ionut Alex Chitu on January 28, 2008
Tony Hirst found a simple way to place the events from a Google Calendar on a map. Assuming that the calendar is public, all you need to do is to find the XML address of the calendar, enter the address in a Yahoo Pipe that extracts the locations and generates a geoRSS feed, click on "More options" and copy the link to the KML output. You can enter the URL in a Google Maps search box and...

Bookmark Google Search Results
via Google Operating System by Ionut Alex Chitu on January 28, 2008
An interesting side-effect of Google Notebook's integration with Google Bookmarks is that you can now bookmark search results without having to install plug-ins or use bookmarklets. When you log in to a Google Account, a new option appears next to each search result: "note this". If you click on "note this", Google will open a small version of Google Notebook and add a link to the search...

Google Toolbar and 404 Error Pages
via Google Operating System by Ionut Alex Chitu on February 12, 2008
I find it very strange that people have abnormal reactions when Google does something. People have an incorrect perception of the "don't be evil" mantra and like to say that Google doesn't respect it every time Google does something debatable. I didn't hear too many people complaining that Internet Explorer replaces default 404 error pages with its own page, but when Google Toolbar...

Gmail's Humble Beginning
via Google Operating System by Ionut Alex Chitu on February 16, 2008
Paul Buchheit, Gmail's first engineer, writes about the first steps in the evolution of Gmail.I wrote the first version of Gmail in one day. It was not very impressive. All I did was stuff my own email into the Google Groups (Usenet) indexing engine. I sent it out to a few people for feedback, and they said that it was somewhat useful, but it would be better if it searched over their email...
