The Real Consequences of Sharia Law
via Iain Dale's Diary by Iain Dale on February 12, 2008
If you ever had doubts about the wickedness and unfairnesses of certain elements of Sharia Law, Danny Finkelstein should allay them for you, HERE. The day we ever allow any of this in this country will mark the end of Britain as we know it.

Athlete Defies the 'Gagging' Clause
via Iain Dale's Diary by Iain Dale on February 12, 2008
Well done to British badminton olympic hopeful Richard Vaughan. He has ignored the BOA gagging clause and called on China to do more to help solve the crisis in Dafur. He suggested that China used its trade links to put much needed pressure on the Sudanese government. The BOA really do need to be sensible about this and allow athletes to express their views on issues of conscience. No one wants...

How the World is Viewing Northern Rock
via Iain Dale's Diary by Iain Dale on February 18, 2008
From the way Labour spinners have gone into overdrive you'd think the nationalisation of Northern Rock was nothing more than "a little local difficulty". The world's media seem to have formed a different view...“The Northern Rock debacle has become a major headache for Brown and his Chancellor Alistair Darling, tarnishing the government's popularity and denting the prime...

Portillo Documentary Was a Hit
via Iain Dale's Diary by Iain Dale on February 26, 2008
The Portillo documentary on BBC 4 last night was a gripping 90 minutes of political TV. As regulars know, I'm no great fan of Mr P, but this programme was superb. I think he may have found his niche. Like several of his other TV documentaries he imposed himself on the narrative, and again, it worked. He sought to explain the Thatcherite legacy on the Conservative Party and did it very well....

Hillary Fails to Land a Blow
via Iain Dale's Diary by Iain Dale on February 27, 2008
I've just watched the whole Clinton-Obama debate screened last night from Ohio. Most pundits called it a score draw. I don't. I call it a win for Obama. Hillary Clinton needed a big win and she failed to get it - hence it is a victory for Obama. I actually thought she copped by far the toughest questioning, but her pleading for sympathy seemed inappropriate and phoney. The only area she...

Where truth and fiction meet... This video looks at the similarities between fictional West Wing presidential candidate Matt Santos, and Barack Obama. Or is it the other way round?

The Straight Talking of Poland's New Prime Minister
via Iain Dale's Diary by Iain Dale on May 05, 2008
The new Polish Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, is a straight talking guy. Imagine if Gordon Brown or George Bush uttered these words about their own countries...We have no oil and gas. We don't have high tech. Our centers of development, are far, far behind others. We will never be an extraordinary tourist attraction. Poland is quite a mediocre country in some regards. The only natural resource...

More Trouble for Reading Labour Party
via Iain Dale's Diary by Iain Dale on May 07, 2008
The Reading Labour Party suffered a further blow today when one of its leading councillors, former Mayor Tony Jones, resigned the Labour whip to sit as an independent. They lost control of the Council on Thursday, losing 3 seats to the resurgent Reading Conservatives and 2 to the LibDems. The Tories gained a further seat from the LibDems. Cllr Jones has this to say... Both my grandfathers were...

Gordon Brown's Imperfect Storm
via Iain Dale's Diary by Iain Dale on May 07, 2008
THIS article from Goldmans says oil will reach $150-$200. Frightening stuff. Even more frightening is this analysis from one of my regular correspondents...The immediate political effects are that oil (I guess would spike at $140) by the end of the year. I would expect there to be fuel strikes because of the high costs of petrol. I also expect the sentiment in the country to swing strongly...
