Post Acquisition Integration

... to work flawlessly over the past few quarters. This is a testament to the quality of the service in the first place. These days, whenever someone tells me that "scaling is no big deal" or "after that, we just need the money to scale things up", I just burst out laughing. The deep dark hole of post acquisition integration is often deep and dark. When it works, it can be a beautiful thing.

... begin WriteLn(‘Foundry Group Raises $225 Million Early Stage VC Fund’); end.And that would be the third. These three examples are minor derivations of everyone’s first program – also known as “Hello World” – written in APL, Basic, and Pascal for the non-nerds among you.Last year I co-founded Foundry Group with four partners – Seth Levine, Jason Mendelson,...

I Don't Believe in COO's

... - with a 2% exception.)There are two situations that are common that I think are silly:The sales guy (VP Sales) wants to be the COO. The finance guy (VP Finance) wants to be the COO. Somewhere along the way there was an infomercial that said "if you are a VP and you want to advance in your career, become a COO." I've never understood this and it just confuses things. There's a ...

Being A Doer Is How You Change Things
via Feld Thoughts by brad@feld.com on May 29, 2008
... have said at least one memorable thing during our conversation:“The most impactful people tend to be the doers in the organization. We can’t rely solely on entrepreneurs, who may have very little time, to make change happen. Anyone with a strong voice can be a role model. " He then adds a line that I love in the never ending "patents are like nuclear bombs" debate: "But if you're fighting a war today, it's better to count on weapons you have at hand today -- don't rely on a nuclear program that could take five years ...

Fucking Lawyers
via Feld Thoughts by brad@feld.com on June 01, 2008
... planet. My partner, and ex-lawyer, Jason Mendelson has a fantastic rant up titled Why Start-up Lawyers Frustrate Me. He provides a detailed look on his two gripes: pricing and execution. While "some of my best friends are lawyers", I couldn't agree more with Jason's post. I'm looking forward to Jason's equivalent of "fucking accountants" post which is hopefully coming soon.
