I’ve somehow learned more about Photoshop from watching these videos than anything else. Absolutely hilarious. Episode 1Episode 2

Help Key: How to download off Usenet like a champ
via CrunchGear by Nicholas Deleon on February 27, 2008
If and when the **AA have Usenet shut down after the piece appears, feel free to blame Biggs. He’s making me write it.I occasionally mention Usenet when talking about piracy here, but I’ve never really explained what it is or what it does. I’m still not going to explain what it is, technically, (that’s what Wikipedia’s for), but I will put it in layman’s terms. Think of Usenet as a...

Snickers + Caffeine + Taurine = recipe for success
via CrunchGear by Doug Aamoth on January 28, 2008
Man oh man, do I miss Snickers. When I worked in an office, I used to eat one (and only one) each day. Yum. Now that there’s going to be a Snickers bar infused with caffeine, taurine, and B vitamins, I’m going to have to seriously reconsider starting up my Costco membership again. So how does it taste? Let’s check in with Candy Blog.It smells much like the regular Snickers, has the same...

Military-grade translation coming to civilian iPods
via CrunchGear by Doug Aamoth on January 30, 2008
Get the hell outta here. Special iPod software that our soldiers use to communicate with Arabic- and Kurdish-speaking people will be made available to regular Joe-Jobbers like you and me soon. That’s quacktastic. Here’s more from Computerworld…For example, soldiers can show Iraqi citizens a photo of a terrorist, and the iPod says in Arabic, “have you seen this person?”Another part of...

Oh, I almost forgot: Tusken Raider spotted on Mars
via CrunchGear by Doug Aamoth on January 23, 2008
Is there life on Mars? Yes, says the Spirit rover. Here’s a photo it snapped last November. It appears to either be an intergalactic Sasquatch, a Tusken Raider, a really tan naked guy, or some sort of rock statue near the base of what’s known as Tsiolkovski Ridge. My guess is that there’s probably an underground Whole Foods in the base of that cliff and this fella’s going to get a Jamba...

Apple to produce ‘cheaper, innovative iPods with Wi-Fi and multi-touch technology’ soon?
via CrunchGear by Doug Aamoth on January 30, 2008
Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster (who used to work with my dad, went to the same high school as me, and is or was dating my friend Ross’ sister) thinks that Apple might put out some newer, cheaper iPod touch-like devices.“We believe that the iPod touch is the first of several Internet-connected iPods that Apple is currently developing. With 70% market share, we believe Apple is in the...

Tentative deal reached in writers strike: Guild leaders say it protects writers’ future
via CrunchGear by Nicholas Deleon on February 09, 2008
A tentative deal has been reached in the ongoing writers strike. The only reason why we paid attention to it here was because a primary reason for the strike stemmed from the use of “new media” like Internet broadcasts, DVD sales, mobile use, etc. Our bread and butter, in other words. There’s a PDF of all the terms and conditions of the new contract, which is good through May, 2001 (who...

Funny five-minute South Park-ish gadget movie
via CrunchGear by Doug Aamoth on February 15, 2008
This five-minute animated cartoon is, for all intents and purposes, a South Park episode waiting to happen. Hell, if Trey Parker and Matt Stone were so inclined, they could just order this thing up and plop it down on Comedy Central without changing much at all. Very well done by the good people at the Um-brella.com site. Everyone gets equal ribbing in this one; Nokia, Apple, and Microsoft....

Floating lamp: Balloon with built-in LEDs
via CrunchGear by Nicholas Deleon on February 20, 2008
Every one of y’all needs to petition the designer of the floating lamp, a balloon with an LED base. Fill her up with helium and you’ve got, yes, a floating light. Since the balloons follow all the laws of physics, you can expect them to last only so long before they fall back to the earth.Probably the best thing I’ve seen in a while, real or otherwise. Lighter-Than-Air Lights [Yanko...
