Edwards out
via 2008 Democratic Convention Watch by Matt on January 30, 2008
John Edwards is dropping out of the race today. What happens to his delegates? First, all of his superdelegates go back into the no endorsement pool. Second, his 4 delegates from New Hampshire and his 8 delegates from South Carolina will go to the convention as Uncommitted. And finally, his delegates from Iowa don't exist anymore, but will be replaced with Clinton or Obama delegates....

Who's getting the big superdelegates
via 2008 Democratic Convention Watch by Matt on February 01, 2008
We've been closely tracking superdelegate endorsements since early this month, and a clear trend has been observed. If I had written this post yesterday, Obama would have gained 25 superdelegates since January 12, and Clinton gained 23 delegates, pretty even. But Obama surged ahead today, with 6 more superdelegates, now showing a gain of 31 vs. 23 for Clinton. But even more interesting is...

Delegate Allocation Won't Match Vote Percentages
via 2008 Democratic Convention Watch by Matt on February 05, 2008
Remember that pledged delegates are allocated in two ways: Statewide, about 1/3 of the pledged delegates, and by Congressional District, about 2/3 of the pledged delegates. The statewide delegates will be allocated fairly close to the statewide vote percentages, since there will not be a 3rd candidate breaking the 15% threshold. But the Congressional District allocation is very different:If, in...

Obama campaign?: Don't contact the superdelegates
via 2008 Democratic Convention Watch by Matt on February 07, 2008
There's a movement out there among activists for both campaigns to contact the undecided superdelegates to get them to support their candidate. Well, the Obama campaign is trying to stop it:If I may make one comment on superdelegates. We're all very committed to seeing Barack Obama become the nominee of the Democratic party. Every one of us wants to contribute to make that dream a...

What one superdelegate thinks about the nominating process
via 2008 Democratic Convention Watch by Oreo on February 07, 2008
Our superdelegate friend DNC member Jenny Greenleaf from Oregon commented in a post below and I thought it should be seen by everybody. I am absolutely remaining uncommitted until Oregon votes.I've talked with some of the other delegates about what an odd process we have for electing a party standard bearer. As our former Governor Barbara Roberts said, "Making things fair makes things...

Do Superdelegates vote the same as their constituents?
via 2008 Democratic Convention Watch by Oreo on February 07, 2008
Now that a majority of states have had their primary or caucus we're going to compare the people's votes to the superdelegate endorsements. As with our other lists this will be constantly updated as new primaries/caucuses are held and as new superdelegate endorsements are made. The table also shows where a majority of each candidate's support is coming from.Unpledged add-ons will not...

Iowa superdelegate slams Clinton on Florida, then endorses her
via 2008 Democratic Convention Watch by Matt on February 08, 2008
This is good. Last week, just before the Florida primary: Sarah Swisher, first vice chair of the Iowa Democratic Party, serves on the Democratic National Committee's rules committee. That committee punished Florida for scheduling its primary today, a week before an approved window. Friday, Clinton said she will ask her delegates to seat delegates from Florida and Michigan. "It's not...

Superdelegates by position
via 2008 Democratic Convention Watch by Matt on February 09, 2008
... before the superdelegate list and number are finalized.Florida and Michigan are not included.DPL = Distinguished Party Leaders. We include Dodd and Byrd as Senators, the DNC lists them as DPL. We include Rendell as a Governor, the DNC lists him as a DPL.Senate numbers include both DC "Shadow Senators", Michael Brown and Paul Strauss, but not the FL/MI senators. So 49 Democratic Senators (Le...
