Where are the thought followers?
via Go Big Always by sam on June 16, 2008
Go to any company and they’ll tell you they need to be doing more “thought leadership.” I cringe when I hear this. The message behind the message is that they really want a whitepaper or marketing program or something that sales can dump off on prospects. I’ve never met a prospect that thinks of this as thought leadership. If that’s really what people want, let’s just call it clearer...

Here’s Our New Policy On A.P. stories: They’re Banned
via TechCrunch by Michael Arrington on June 16, 2008
The stories over the weekend were bad enough - the Associated Press, with a long history of suing over quotations from their articles, went after Drudge Retort for having the audacity to link to their stories along with short quotations via reader submissions. Drudge Retort is doing nothing different than what Digg, TechMeme, Mixx and dozens of other sites do, and frankly the fact that they are...

Five Tools I Use for Listening
via chrisbrogan.com by chrisbrogan on June 15, 2008
As part of the social media strategy series, I thought I’d start with listening. Social media tools are a great way to get the word out about your passions, your interests, the company’s latest products, but we tend to rush right into the “speaking” side of the toolbox without giving much thought to the “listening” part. Knowing what people are saying about you, your competitors, and...

Email checklist
via Seth's Blog by Seth Godin on June 04, 2008
... of, but really ask for it? So that means that if you didn't send it to them, they'd complain about not getting it? See #5. If they wouldn't complain, take them off! That means, for example, that sending bulk email to a list of bloggers just cause they have blogs is not okay. Aside: the definition of permission marketing: Anticipated, personal and relevant messages delivered to ...

How to Comment About Your Company on Blog Posts, Without Being Spammy
via ReadWriteWeb by Marshall Kirkpatrick on June 06, 2008
For every 1000 people who read a tech blog post, there may be one that leaves a comment. Lurking in the crowd are any number of people who work for companies related to the subject of the post. They almost never comment, and when they do they often come across as obnoxious, self-promoting and spammy. It doesn't have to be that way, though. There are a number of ways that you can join in a...

The Five Questions Companies Ask About Social Media
via Web Strategy by Jeremiah by jeremiah_owyang on June 06, 2008
I just visited a client who had several groups in their company doing quite a bit around social media (they are trying to answer the 4th and 5th question). They were what I call “walking” and were on the verge of “running”. Often, when I meet companies for the first time, I try to find out which of the following questions that they are answering, as it determines their level of...

Mac apps you have to have
via Community Guy - Jake McKee by Jake McKee on June 08, 2008
The latest issue of Mac Life magazine had a cool collection of 30 great Mac apps that “you’ve never heard of.” Well, that wasn’t quite right, but there were several great finds. Considering how many blog readers I get who are Macs, I figured I might share those finds plus a few of my own favorites.Yojimbo - a great “collector” app that I use daily to keep track of all the misc. stuff...

Twitter is a Complete Waste of Time!
via ProBlogger Blog Tips by (author unknown) on June 04, 2008
Shared by Jbud1 Context is key and use is key. Excel is a waste of time if you dont take advantage of its formula functions, so is blogging and twittering a waste of time if you dont use them properly. EDUCATE YOURSELF!Every time I’ve written about Twitter (or FriendFeed or most other social media) I see comments left saying ‘Twitter is a waste of time’. My response is simple - yes it...

Google’s Panoramio Launches Photosynth-like Flythroughs
via TechCrunch by Jason Kincaid on June 02, 2008
Microsoft’s Photosynth is undeniably gorgeous - it lets users “walk” through various locales by stitching together thousands of user-submitted photos to create a virtual 3D environment. Unfortunately, up until today this experience has only been available to Windows users.Cue Panoramio, a Spanish photo site that Google acquired in May 2007. Panoramio has just launched a new “Look...
