Create Your Own Cross-Platform Backup Server [Feature]
via Lifehacker by Kevin Purdy on February 28, 2008
Backing up your data on a regular basis is important, and turning a spare computer into a backup server is often the best way to make sure it gets done. But most methods require either a good deal of command-line learning or serve only one operating system. Not with Restore, a free, open-source backup system that can install or run from a live CD, work with any OS and operate through a simple...

Giant WWII mine detonated at English seaside town
via Boing Boing by Cory Doctorow on April 13, 2008
UK bomb disposal experts detonated a huge, 1,500 pound WWII German mine at Bridgwater Bay, Somerset yesterday. The explosion was awesomely awesome, as can be seen here.Remember, Hong Kong Disneyland is built on lots of unexploded WWII ordnance, left to marinate in salt water and slowly become inert. Let's hope that process is ticking along nicely. Tick tick tick.Link(via Gizmodo)

Make Your Cell Phone Vibrate First, Ring Second [How To]
via Lifehacker by Adam Pash on February 27, 2008
If you use your cell phone in environments where a blaring ring isn't always the ideal, but vibrate alone doesn't always get your attention, then you'd probably do well to set your phone to vibrate first and then ring if you don't pick it up after a few seconds. This functionality is available on some phones out of the box, but many other phones (ahem, *iPhone*) don't offer...

via Lifehacker by Kevin Purdy on March 26, 2008
More than a year after web-based photo editors began swarming the scene, Adobe this morning unveiled its free, long-anticipated Photoshop Express web app. It doesn't have nearly a quarter of the options, tools, and tricks of its desktop-based namesake, but it seems like a good platform for anyone who likes to spend a little time refining, and then sharing, their digital photos. The...
