SQL SERVER - PIVOT and UNPIVOT Table Examples
via Journey to SQL Authority with Pinal Dave by pinaldave on June 07, 2008

One of the Jr. DBA at my organization asked me following question.“If we PIVOT any table and UNPIVOT that table do we get our original table?”I really think this is good question. Answers is Yes, you can but not always. When we pivot the table we use aggregated...

An online survey reveals that Microsoft may be working on its own version of Nintendo's Miis called "Avatars." The new Avatars will replace Gamer Pictures beginning this holiday. The Avatars will be completely customizable. No word yet on what other functions they may have, though it's possible they could be integrated in to games in the future.

I had to single this talk out. Steve Yegge is a living legend, and with his mammoth write up of his talk you can see it in text view, and you can also download all of the slides.Steve does his thing, and goes in glorious directions, such as how we end up with a scriptable back end, how the JVM matters as a host for these things, SchemeScript, how defineProperty gets around the for .. in issues,...

Beautiful Brochures and Booklets
via Smashing Magazine by Vitaly Friedman & Sven Lennartz on June 16, 2008
In corporate design brochures and booklets are a standard tool for promotion and advertising. They are tiny books or magazines which lay around in conference halls, offices and waiting rooms. Sometimes they contain an annual report of the company or showcase the portfolio of an artist. Brochures can also be included in CDs and DVDs; however, usually they are given away as freebies (e.g. they may...

Google's Trying to Help with NetNeutrality
via Geek News Central by (author unknown) on June 16, 2008
"We're trying to develop tools, software tools...that allow people to detect what's happening with their broadband connections, so they can let [ISPs] know that they're not happy with what they're getting -- that they think certain services are being tampered with,"This came from Google senior policy director Richard Whitt the other day. Google seems to have taken a firm stance on...
