via Presentation Zen by Garr on February 12, 2008
The problem with many presentations is that people simply try to say too much in a short amount of time. Most people struggle with practicing restraint in the preparation stage—including myself—and have a hard time making the tough choices about inclusion and exclusion before the presentation. Often no time is given to the idea of exclusion and paring down. As a result, audiences all too...

Leadership: Ignorant Expertise
via FC Experts by (author unknown) on January 30, 2008
Last weekend I purchased a Panasonic DVD recorder. It came with the usual manual and quick-start setup guide. I’m not a techie, but I’m no slouch; I know how to follow directions. Well after 2 hours of following the instructions to the letter, I couldn’t make it work. There was a help-line phone number so I called and got instructions from the rep and within 15 minutes had the machine fully...

Leadership: Old Habits Die Hard
via FC Experts by (author unknown) on January 31, 2008
If they’re no longer working and continue to not work, replace them. What am I talking about? Old habits. Why in the world would you want to hang onto something that doesn't work for you when you have a choice? Not only do individuals get buried in the past but when organizational culture enables this, the organization as a whole buries itself in the past and struggles to rise past it.To...

Customer Centric Organizations – Hype or Innovation?

Today, and for the foreseeable future, the driving force of customer relevancy is...

E-books will never be our friends
via The Travelin' Librarian by Michael on February 14, 2008
Here's a great article from the Times Online about eBooks. Considering I gave a presentation on the Sony Reader and the Kindle earlier this week (video available on the NLC blog), I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who still thinks that they have their place, but won't ever replace printed books. Here's a sample:None of this, however, spells doom to the physical book....
