Yahoo’s oneConnect: One Mobile App to Rule Them All
via TechCrunch by Erick Schonfeld on February 12, 2008
Today at the Mobile World Congress in Spain, Yahoo announced a mobile app called oneConnect that will be available in the second quarter as part of the upcoming release of Yahoo Go 3.0. I have not seen a demo of this myself, but it sounds like a much-needed integration of messaging and social apps. OneConnect will pull together contacts from your mobile phone, Yahoo address book, and social...

Chat With Your Site's Visitors Using Google Talk
via Google Operating System by Ionut Alex Chitu on February 26, 2008
Google Talk's gadget was a nice addition, but you couldn't use it to chat with unknown people or with the visitors of the site, like in Meebo Me. Now you can do that using the new chatback badges. You only need to add some code to your site and anyone could click on the generated badge to chat with you."A Google Talk chatback badge allows others to chat with you even if they haven't...

Color Pencils Reviewed
via Google Blogoscoped by Philipp Lenssen on February 11, 2008
Today I acquired a set of color pencil devices. You can get them in certain specialized shops. Note the device color range greatly varies by manufacturer; mine wasn’t even in the 6 bit range, producing only up to 24 colors when displayed. Invitations are not required for usage of color pencils though the service is paid only, with unfortunately no trial period.UsagePreparing the color pencil...

Color tile optical illusion
via Boing Boing by Mark Frauenfelder on February 09, 2008
You might have seen this shaded gray squares illusion before. Squares A and B are the same shade of gray. Here's a similar illusion with colored squares. The "blue" tiles on the top face of the left cube are the same color as the "yellow" tiles in the top of the right cube.Don't take my word for it. Use an image editing program with a eyedropper to see for yourself. I used Photoshop's...

Sneak Peak At Android Apps Out of MIT
via TechCrunch by Erick Schonfeld on May 09, 2008
A class at MIT built some mobile apps for Google’s Android operating system and presented them today. CrunchGear’s own superblogger Doug Aamoth reports on the seven apps—loco, Flare, GeoLife, Re:public, Locale, Kei, and snap—that he saw. Below is a slightly edited version of the original post: locoLoco is a mobile social network built on top an Android phone’s contact manager, so...
