LocatePC Tracks Stolen Computers with Discrete Emails [Featured Windows Download]
via Lifehacker by Kevin Purdy on May 15, 2008
Windows only: Free computer-tracking application LocatePC is a lightweight application that can save you a hefty amount of money if your laptop, or even desktop, falls into the wrong hands. Running as a nondescript background app, LocatePC can quietly email you at regular intervals or, more helpfully, whenever your IP address changes. That could be a pain for those behind cable connections and...

NBC Activates Broadcast Flag
via Slashdot by samzenpus on May 15, 2008
I Don't Believe in Imaginary Property writes "NBC activated the 'broadcast flag' on a number of shows this week, ranging from American Gladiator to Medium, which prevented compliant programs like Windows Media Center from recording them. The matter is being 'looked into,' but that doesn't tell us whether it was an accident or a ploy to see how outraged viewers would be at...

Brand Tags
via YesButNoButYes Stories by (author unknown) on May 15, 2008
Shared by Daniel Check "Comcast" for lolsPerception is reality. For instance, no matter how much money Microsoft throws into their Zune advertising campaigns, I'll always think it's a sub-par iPod ripoff. Friend and marketing genius, Noah Brier, built a site called Brand Tags that tracks what people think about certain companies. Take it for a spin, see what other people think about...

via Slashdot by timothy on May 14, 2008
An anonymous reader writes "We first heard about Splashtop back in October, when the instant-on Linux desktop was announced. At the time it was a really exciting concept but Asus only rolled out the technology on high-end motherboards. Splashtop just announced that Asus will be expanding the desktop to the P5Q motherboard family and later on to all Asus motherboards. That's embedded Linux...

Sir Charles As Ron Burgundy
via YesButNoButYes Stories by Johnny Wright on May 13, 2008
As many of you know, Charles Barkley as an NBA commentator is the balls. Candid, scathing and funny. I love it when he calls Rasheed Wallace or Vince Carter a "knucklehead." Chuck is also a good sport. The TNT crew played a Ron Burgundy prank on him recently with the TelePrompTer. Good times. You stay classy planet Earth. Leave a comment on this story.
