The Five Essential Elements of Effective Social Media Marketing
via Copyblogger by Brian Clark on June 04, 2008
Have you noticed all the skepticism lately about social media marketing?I invited one of those skeptics to vent here on Copyblogger last week. Bob Hoffman is the CEO of a traditional advertising agency, and he raised some valid points about true interactivity online. Unfortunately, as many people ironically pointed out in the comments, Bob is short on answers. The skepticism Bob and others have...

MTV Ejects Most Exciting, Charismatic 'Real World' Cast Member In Years [I Want My MTV Back]
via Defamer by Molly Friedman on June 04, 2008
We've already admitted that the Real World series lost us more than a few years ago. We grew especially despondent after that Las Vegas: Reunion idea, and hardly noticed when the current Hollywood-set season began. Then one recent Lazy Sunday, we found ourselves flipping through the channels and spotting a young man named Greg. You see, Greg is Puck, Irene, Trisha and Coral all meshed into...

eVIPlist.com: Social Ranking as a promotional tool
via Black Web 2.0 by markus@blackweb20.com (Angela Benton and Markus Robinson) on June 04, 2008
At first glance eVIPlist.com may look like another Digg clone. While the site does use Digg’s open API its business and web strategy is far from the typical “rank news/info” model that we typically see from other sites using the same API. While similarities can certainly be found between eVIPlist.com and other sites such as GlobalGrind.com, a deeper look into the content will show...

Tony Hawk designs his own Sidekick. Of course!
via DVICE by AdamFrucci on June 04, 2008
For some reason, T-Mobile just announced a new Sidekick LX — Tony Hawk edition. Yes, Tony Hawk the skateboarder. Why is Tony Hawk getting his own version of the Sidekick? Beats me, but here we are. It's just like the regular Sidekick LX, but it's got custom Tony Hawk graphics on it and a skateboard-like texture on the back. You also get the full QWERTY keyboard and flip-up screen that...

Mapping Iran's Blogosphere
via The Daily Dish | By Andrew Sullivan by Andrew Sullivan on June 04, 2008
Blogs may turn out to be critical in breaking the grip of the mullahs. From a new Harvard report:Most of the blogosphere network is visible inside Iran, although the most frequently blocked blogs are clearly those in the secular/reformist pole. Given the repressive media environment in Iran today, blogs may represent the most open public communications platform for political discourse. The...

Don't Commit Web Suicide
via The Next Right by mindyfinn on June 02, 2008
Promoted. There's nothing that annoys me more as online political professional than politicians who refuse to continue the conversation with supporters after the campaign. Many of the former Republicans have hundreds of thousands of supporters they could mobilize for John McCain... or even keep themselves relevant and build a base for future runs or their activities in Congress. And yet most...

MU vs NING for Community Building
via ProBlogger Blog Tips by Darren Rowse on May 31, 2008
This is a guest post by Roni of GreenLiteBites. Roni has developed a successful online community, BlogToLose, to support her weight loss blog WeightWatchen. In 2005, I started a blog to track my weight loss progress after joining Weight Watchers. Initially, the site was a very egocentric attempt to be accountable on my weight loss journey. However, as I started to get some regular visitors my...

Wale Realizes the Full Potential of the Mixtape
via Passion of the Weiss by Passion of the Weiss on June 03, 2008
Last November, Zeus wrote a post dissecting the differences between albums and mixtapes for the benefit of crits and fans who had been mistakenly conflating Pusha-T rhyming over old G-Unit beats for high art. It happens. The post may have been a tad heavy-handed, but its point was salient. More often than not, mixtapes lack the conceptual unity, cohesiveness and thoughtfulness that people should...

People.com: Gawker, Bloggers Won't Kill Us Because Our News Is True-er
via Silicon Alley Insider by Michael Learmonth on June 04, 2008
Mark Golin, editor of the dot-com arm of celebrity behemoth People, says he reads blogs and even likes a few of them, but they're not going to challenge People.com until they get their facts straight. Facts are important to people, even on the Web, and even if they're about Angelina Jolie."Along with speed, people still want it to be true, so they may read information somewhere but they...

Stay-at-home moms worth $117,000 a year
via Feministing by Jessica on June 04, 2008
... to think these studies (that usually come out around Mother's Day) were cool - they showed that women's work in the informal economy was worth something. But more recently, it almost seems insulting. As if women who contribute at home get a once-a-year chance to brag about how much they're worth - and then it's back to cleaning up socks with no compensation. Am I just jaded?
