Every year or so, the same question is asked: how is the Moneyball strategy working out for the Oakland A's. This year's answer is: pretty damn good.Additions like [Frank] Thomas, motivated by this incremental approach, help explain why the A's have won so many games in recent years even though they've consistently traded away or declined to re-sign their top players (Jason...

Found Footage: Tom Servo's a Mac, and Crow's a PC
via The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) by Robert Palmer on June 03, 2008
Filed under: Humor, Blast From the Past, Found FootageIf you enjoyed Mystery Science Theater 3000 as much as I did (and stilldo), this clip from 1991 should warm your precious little heart. Discovered in the bathroom of Jamie Oliver's restaurant, Fifteen: the Dyson Airblade hand dryer. You stick your hands in and slowly draw them out through a thin jet of fast-moving air. Your hands are dry in about 8 seconds. (link)

Plan B
via TechCrunch by Steve Gillmor on June 01, 2008
In the past, you could measure Microsoft’s success by others’ weakness. This time it’s different. Google rolls out a five-pronged disruption to the smart phone, the Visual Studio developer base, social media, offline storage, and Webtone pricing - and it bolsters Ray Ozzie’s hand. With a month to go, Bill Gates’ “transition” from 80-20 to 20-80 has Redmond shaking. The old games just...

via OhGizmo! by Luke Anderson on May 29, 2008
By Luke AndersonI don’t like coffee, so I rarely find myself in a situation where I’m attempting to carry several cups of Joe. I have gathered that it can be something of a difficult situation to coordinate all of those hot cups, even with the various carriers out there. This cool design actually looks lie it would make transporting hot coffee (or any other similarly-sized beverage) fairly...
