You’ll soon be able to chat with your Facebook friends without ever logging in to the site.Facebook has just announced plans to develop a new Jabber/XMPP interface for its popular chat program. confounding playstation 3 ad
via Sociological Images by lisa on May 14, 2008
I was alerted to this ad by both an anonymous commenter and my soon-to-be-graduated (congrats!) student Molly McL. The ad is for Playstation 3 and the text in the upper right corner says “Playboy Forever.” At first I thought it was an ad linking playing Playstation to being a Playboy (which is not exactly what I think of when I think of video-game-addicted men), but Molly pointed out that the...

Conceptual bicycle tree lifts your bike to safety
via Boing Boing Gadgets by John Brownlee on May 13, 2008
A conceptual bike tree for cities with both a lot of bikes and a lot of bike crooks. Amsterdam, I'm looking at you: there is something seriously out of whack when a city's entire bicycle economy is based upon buying your bike back from the same brown-toothed junkie two to three times a month with the same nonchalance as a transaction with your local green grocer. The concept's...

Cradle your laptop inappropriately with the Laptop Backpack
via Shiny Shiny by (author unknown) on May 14, 2008
Shared by SharonG people must be idiots, eh? You know what a laptop is not? It's not a baby. Even if you talk to it in a baby voice, refer to it as 'your baby' and get angry if someone disses it, IT IS NOT A BABY. So, there's very little need to carry it round in a papoose-type sling, cradling it against your body so it can be soothed by the rhythmical beat of your heart. Right?

Why we can't stop playing computer solitaire.
via Slate Magazine by (author unknown) on May 14, 2008
... assessment of our audience—you are reading this alone; you are brilliant—but a bit uncharitable when it comes to solitaire. The canonical single-player game is an easy punch line, most often cited as the preferred hobby of the office slacker or the intellectual playground of dullards. (George W. Bush was known to play the occasional hand while governor of Texas.) But the poor, benig...

Tips for Linking to Google Presentations
via Google Operating System by (author unknown) on May 11, 2008
Shared by SharonG useful! If you publish a presentation at Google Docs, you'll receive a simple URL that can be used to view the presentation online. Unfortunately, if you go to that URL without being logged in to a Google Account, Google will ask you to log in:The explanation is that Google Presentations offers some advanced features that require authentication: chatting with other people...
