The Ethics Tipping Point?
via Profy.Com by Cyndy Aleo-Carreira on May 12, 2008
Have we finally reached the tipping point for actually stating that we have ethics and where we draw those lines? It wasn't even a month ago when I mentioned that all bloggers may need a personal code of ethics as detailed as Kara Swisher's if we wanted to be taken seriously as journalists. There is often a fuzzy line, especially when you are writing in a world where blogs often co-sponsor...

Enhance Your Google Apps with Greasemonkey Scripts
via Web Worker Daily by Scott Blitstein on May 15, 2008
Like a lot of Web Workers, I am fairly dependent on the Google suite of applications, and with good reason. They are feature rich, they’re reliable, I can get to them from anywhere on just about any hardware, and they’re free. That doesn’t mean that they are perfect though. Each application has it’s own quirks and improvement is always possible. Thankfully, if you’re a Firefox user...

One more thing on Google…
via Cantabrigia by David Harris on May 15, 2008
After visiting Google’s new Cambridge office, I’m still struck at how un-office-y the Google office is. I’d heard about what a cool working environment it is (and how employees really don’t have to leave work for any reason), but a smoothie bar? Yeah, they’ve got it.And marker board walls (you can even write on the kitchen cabinets in the company’s kitchenette)!

LCARS-esque touchscreen controls home, excites Trekkies
via Engadget by Darren Murph on May 15, 2008
Filed under: Displays, Householdza9000's LCARS-like touch panel isn't quite ready to hop aboard any spacecraft, but it sure seems to do a fine job of controlling his home. Truthfully, detailing this thing in words wouldn't do it justice, so we'll leave it to you to don your best Spock face and check out the three-minute clip waiting just past the break.[Thanks, Daniel]Continue...

Porting Twitter Digest to Google App Engine
via persistent.info by Mihai Parparita on May 12, 2008
I've been meaning to play around with Google App Engine for a while, and as a quick project, I decided to port Twitter Digest to it (not as exciting as Kushal's Millidunst Calculator). This looked to be pretty straightforward: the original version was already in Python, and wasn't very complicated (just a single CGI script). It did indeed end up pretty easy; the whole process took a...

Comcast Plus Plaxo: Not a Pretty Picture!
via ReadWriteWeb by Marshall Kirkpatrick on May 15, 2008
Communications giant Comcast has acquired social web application Plaxo for an estimated $150m or more. Techcrunch confirmed the deal first but offers an understated critique of the alliance. Many web users familiar with the operations of both companies are much more upset about the deal.Plaxo has probably the most clouded reputation of any of the major participants in the current data...

Mining the social web with WeFeelFine and Twistori
via Change Is Good by Siddiq Bello on May 15, 2008
Back in 2006 I was working on a venture I called SocialNet (MySocialMap), based largely on research by dinah boyd and the Vister application she and Jeffery Heer put together. The idea was to build a icon based visual map of relationships across multiple social networks and layer this with a Taste Fabric styled algorithm. Users would be able to visualize their relationships across social...
