This week’s bitchmeme has relocated to FriendFeed
via WinExtra by Steven Hodson on May 09, 2008
We all know how come Friday afternoon we look to Techmeme for the hot button topic that may just prove to be the current week’s bitchmeme that will carry us over a potentially boring weekend of non-news. This weekend though it appears that Techmeme has lost out to FriendFeed as being the source of a potential bitchmeme candidate.Just a bit of a back story so you can get your game card caught up to date. This all started on Thursday with a post by David Risley called The FriendFeed Orgasm And Why It Is Off The Mark in which he raised some questions about FriendFeed, noise levels and comment fragmentation. Now much of what he has talked about in the post had been raised before by other bloggers but that didn’t stop some extremely opinionated comments on both his blog and on FriendFeed.
In turn David was prompted to write a follow up post this morning that was directed more at one incident in the comment frenzy that followed his original post. In the post he called out the fact that Robert Scoble in his post on the noise issue had linked to the FriendFeed conversation rather than the originating post on David’s blog.
This in turn has resulted in twoother comment storms on FriendFeed where David was accused of being snobbish because Robert had supposedly denied David of the so-called magical effects of the Robert Scoble Google juice by not linking to the original post.
Well I hate to be the one to break it to you Robert but you magic is fading away to being a thing of the past. From personal experience neither your blog nor your link blog has the same power to send visitors anywhere that it once had. While I obviously can’t speak for anyone else I do know that even six to nine months ago a Scoble link meant something and could be counted on to bring a reasonable spike in traffic. Now though for whatever reasons that juice has become diluted.
Along with Robert trying to justify his continued presence within the blogosphere other folks within all the comments on FriendFeed surrounding these couple of related posts from David have resorted to their own smackdown. With words like envious, snobbish being used right through making fun of David because of a spelling error of a person’s last name one has to wonder just how serious we are about listening to other viewpoints - even if they are expressed in less than genteel wording.
So if you are wondering what has happened to this week’s bitchmeme don’t look to Techmeme but head over to FriendFeed and followalong withthe conversation when you are bored this weekend.
